From the beginning Radio Luxembourg proposed a multilingual program. CLR’s (Compagnie Luxembourgeoise de Radiodiffusion) target audience was France, Germany and the UK. In the 30’s the radio even broadcast theme nights devoted to a different country: there were English, German and sometimes even Czech or Italian nights.

This made Radio Luxembourg a revolutionary and very popular station because it didn’t only target listeners from his own territory.Before the war Radio Luxembourg had millions of listeners, primarily because of his international feature and his music.In 1950 the station returned with a program in English, Flemish and Luxemburgish.

But the Luxemburgish programs became an important part. First they changed the program from 30 minutes a day to a few hours a day, devoted to the Luxembourgish history, economy, political life, folklore and music. And finally on the 19th October 1959 CLR started broadcasting on the radio frequency 92,5 MHz, which broadcasted only Luxemburgish programs. As a result the radio now called Radio Lëtzebuerg became the most listened station in Luxembourg.
