Garage doors opening without any intervention, malfunctioning electric devices or household appliances switching themselves on? What sounds like a spooky story indeed took place in Marnach. The signals of the radio towers had affected electric devices in the neighbouring households.

In 2007, after the renewal of the authorization for the use of Marnach’s radio tower, the local association “Fir méi Liäwensqualitéit” launched a petition. Over 600 signatories feared a negative impact on the health of the population. The authorities shared later the same concern.

The issue dragged on for years and has gone to court. Though no violation could be determined, the contract between the CLT and the government was not renewed and the site would be used for other purposes and sold to the state. Its service ended on January 1st, 2016.
