Artois Fernand

Born on the 15th of September 1926 in Dudelange, in the South of Luxembourg, Fernand Artois is the son of a horologist and jeweller. After having completed primary school in Dudelange, Artois entered boarding school at the Lycée classique d’Echternach. During World War II, the young man was recruited by force into the German Wehrmacht but deserted the moment the American forces arrived in Luxembourg. After the war he studied engineering at the University of Strasbourg before being employed by ARBED, the Luxembourgish steel and iron producing company.

Glesener Emil

Born on the 21st March 1922 à Grevenmacher, in Eastern Luxembourg, Emil Glesener came from a deeply religious family. After the Second World War he became a catholic priest. Glesener is the oldest of our three witnesses of the general strike at the Lycée classique d’Echternach and the only one personally affected by the military service introduced on August 30th 1942.

Kiesch Pierre

Born on the 17th of March 1926 in Luxembourg, Pierre Kiesch is the son of an independent carpenter who died relatively young. His mother took over the firm, and in 1940, Pierre Kiesch went to boarding school at the Lycée classique d‘Echternach.
